» SALENTO NATIVE VINES
The vineyards. Amidst sun-bathed nature.
Amongst luxuriant olive trees, vineyards and two seas winds the sun. Which floods the land with light and colour.
Not far from the town and the sea, on the road which goes from Lecce to Taranto, at the gates of Salice Salentino, surrounded by centuries-old-vegetation, are located the vineyards of Castello Monaci.
200 hectares of land with a pedological profile characterised by two layers, one nearer the surface, finer and richer, which has a considerable influence on the roots and a rocky layer which ensures good drainage of excess water.
Here work is carried out with innovative methods such as a plant management “in parete” (cordone speronato), a development of the typical alberello system which maximises the benefits of the special terroir and of the sun.
The road which leads to the Castello and to the cellar, a straight line of a couple of kilometres which seems to have been drawn with a ruler, divides the vineyards into two parts. A long corridor which is a passage in time within a place where modernity and tradition meet.
This is Castello Monaci estate, which welcomes us with its ancient Castello in the distance.
